Why I Buy Luxury Furniture Over Cheap Furniture
Many years ago I made the error of purchasing cheap furniture from a mainstream retailer and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I moved into a new house with my then fiancée and I needed to fill two bedrooms and a lounge with furniture and I was on a budget. I made the mistake of filling all three rooms for the lowest possible price.
It was all flat pack furniture and assembling it was nothing short of a nightmare. I had to send one wardrobe back as it wouldn't assemble as several pieces were missing! Once assembled, I quickly realised that you get what you pay for. I felt that I had been ripped off as the fit and finish on the furniture was nothing short of atrocious. Drawers and doors wouldn't close properly, items wobbled and the rooms looked cheap and cold.
Since making this mistake, all those years ago, I have been purchasing furniture from independent retailers, auction houses, antiques fairs and flea markets. It has taken a considerable amount of investment in time and money but I now have a house interior to be proud of. I look forward to friends and family coming around, as I know I will always get positive comments.
I made sure that I planned out my rooms to the smallest detail so I could fit some really unique items in there. I put a beautiful antique leather sofa in the lounge that I purchased from an independent retailer. My wife is also hooked on my passion and we regularly look for interesting little items for our home. Only recently, we visited a small shop just outside London and found an amazing art-deco lamp that, while expensive, will never need to be replaced.
Over the years I have spent a lot of money decorating my home and it all started from my bad experience of purchasing cheaply made furniture. I've never been able to work with a massive budget and I've had to decorate my home over a long period of time, but it has definitely been worth it. I would never go back to thinking that it's better to save money and get things done quickly. Thanks to having patience I now have a home full of furniture and accessories that give me nothing but joy.
